On April 10, 2019, the meeting of the German and European Cold Rolling Association FVK and CIELFFA took place in the steel center in Düsseldor. One of the topics was ‘The Circular Flat Steel Economy’. The participants discussed current aspects such as the EU's future legal requirements for the automotive industry regarding CO2 emissions. They will gain in importance for the entire supply chain in the future. The speaker Mr. Dr. Pillkahn (PROASSORT) illustrated the challenges and key factors for the transition of the metals (processing) industry to a value-added-optimised circular economy. In addition, Mr. RA Regula spoke about the Corporate Code of Conduct and IATF 16949 as well as the resulting requirements for quality management. He pointed out possible consequences resulting from a violation of organisational obligations.

At the meeting Mr. Schönemeyer informed about the first draft of the FMB BREF. The final version of the FMP BREF is expected to be published in 2020.

The working group spokesmen reported on standardisation projects and from the Quality Management and Occupational Health & Safety Working Groups. The Quality Management Working Group will revise the 0-defect brochure. The Health & Safety Working Group reported on the activities in the context of the TRGS 505. FVK-members are now within the scope of this Technical Rule for Hazardous Substances, which specifically concerns protective measures to avoid and minimise the exposure to lead and lead containing materials. These activities are part of the so-called OSHA campaign (Link: ), which aims to raise awareness posed by dangerous substances in the workplace and to promote a culture of risk prevention. The European Cold Rolling Association is official partner of this campaign (

6th SCT - International Conference on Steels in Cars and Trucks

On 14-18th June there will be the 6th SCT - International Conference on Steels in Cars and Truck in Milan/Italy. The conference contains more than 150 presentations from industry and research. The motto is ‘Bringing the automotive, supplier and steel industries together’. This reinforces what the modern steel industry is all about: partnerships across value chains being made up of industry, research and development professionals. The second motto of SCT 2020 is: ‘Future trends in steel development, processing technologies and applications’.

Annual Meeting in Brussels with visit of European Parliament

18th October 2019

The Cielffa members met for their Annual Meeting in Brussels on 15th October 2019. It included a visit of the European Parliament and a discussion with the Head of the Office of Mr. Dennis Radtke (CDU), German Member of the European Parliament. Mr. Rey-Baltar as Cielffa President introduced the CIELFFA association and the European cold rolling industry. He emphasized our interests such as a fair supply chain, a balance with powerful buyers and suppliers and the need for good conditions for growth and competition.

The meeting itself took place in the premises of Eurofer/Estep. Dr. Peters, Secretary General of the European Steel Technology Platform (ESTEP), presented the services and projects of this platform. The work in the working groups and projects is currently dominated by issues such as CO2-neutral production or technologies, energy efficiency and sustainable production. Mr. Schröder from the Technical University of Dortmund presented the ESSA project in which CIELFFA is involved. As a third expert lecture, Ms. Silvia Selandari from Orgalim spoke about the current challenges in European and worldwide trade policy.

Regarding the BREF-documents Mr. Schönemeyer reported that the revision process is in the final stage and the first draft has been released for comment. The last working group meeting of the European Commission is planned from 30th March to 4th April 2020.

In this Annual Meeting Mr. Rey-Baltar (Arania) was reelected for Cielffa-President.
