A comprehensive expansion of the CO2 Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism is intended to prevent competitive disadvantages, production relocation and job losses—and to secure investment in a climate-friendly European industry.
Together with other industry associations and workers’ representatives, FVK/CIELFFA and ECRA are calling on the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission to agree, as part of the ongoing trilogue negotiations, on the broadest possible extension of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) to downstream products with high steel and aluminium content. The aim is to reduce competitive disadvantages vis-à-vis carbon-intensive imports, prevent production relocation, and safeguard investment and high-quality industrial jobs in Europe. Protecting European value chains and ensuring competitive conditions for climate-friendly industrial production must be at the heart of the trilogue negotiations.
